NDC calls emergency meeting with EC over discrepancies in voter register

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for an emergency meeting with the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) over what it describes as "discrepancies in the Provisional Voter Register" for the pending December 7, 2024, election.

In a letter addressed to the chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, cited by GhanaWeb, the party indicated that its analysis of the provisional register being used for the ongoing Voter Exhibition Exercise and the register given to it by the commission points to some discrepancies that have to be addressed.

"We write to request an important emergency meeting with you and your team to discuss very serious discrepancies discovered during the ongoing 2024 voter exhibition exercise.

"The discrepancies emanate from analysis of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) given to us by the Commission, and registers being exhibited at the centres," part of the letter, which is dated August 26, 2024, reads.

It concluded: "We anticipate a favourable and timely response as we work towards free, fair and transparent elections."

Meanwhile, the exhibition exercise, which started on August 20, 2024, is expected to end on August 27, 2024.

The exercise is to enable voters to verify their details in the register for the December 7, 2024, general election.
