Accra, Aug 3, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the bye-election in the Odododiodio constituency, Mr Jonathan Tackie Komme, has promised to promote education and youth skill training when he gets the nod of the electorate. He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after he had been introduced to the various traditional, clan and family heads and elders in the area.

Nii Tackie Komme, who is the Assembly Member for the Kinka Electoral Area of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, stated that he would also strive to improve the economic standing of the people in the area, which he described as "poverty stricken" to that of a middle income status.

The NDC candidate said already as an Assembly Member, he had solicited support from the various financial and commercial organisations with their headquarters in the area for a scholarship scheme for 67 brilliant but needy children to enable them to continue their education. He identified some of the companies as Shell, Cadbury, Bank of Ghana, Ghana Commercial Bank, Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. Nii Tackie Komme who is the son of the Late Nii Tackie, Ga Mantse from 1944 to 1965 said, "as a son of the land I have a commitment to serve the people and I will do just that to honour the memory of my fore fathers". He said he would use the MPs' share of the common fund and other interventions to rehabilitate school structures and other educational facilities in the area.

Nii Tackie Komme especially mentioned the Holy Trinity Secondary School and said the institution would be provided with a Science Laboratory and other facilities to promote teaching and learning. He promised to continue the efforts of the late MP, Mr Samuel Mankattah, to improve facilities at the Old Accra Harbour and provide additional sheds for fishermen, fishmongers and customers with sponsorship from the Kissberg Foundation, a Non-governmental Organisation based in the United States.

The Constituency Chairman, Mr Daniel Okai stated that, "the NDC front in Odododiodio is as solid as ever and come August 30 and NDC will score a round 2 with another knockout. We know the ground and we are not going to quarrel with anybody. All that we are interested in is to win and win convincingly. That's all." Mr Okai explained that the party had to call on the traditional authorities in the area to inform and seek their permission and blessing before launching its campaign to "recapture the seat".

Nii Okaidja Adamafio, a National Vice Chairman of the party led the NDC entourage including officials and supporters to pay homage to the traditional, clan and family heads and elders accompanied with music. The group called on the Asene Dzasetse, the leaders and elders of Ngleshie, James Town and Sempe. They also visited Lante Dzan We, Ga Mashie, the Nai Wulomo and the house of the late MP. Other places they called were the Royal Onamroko Korle We Stool House and the Atukpai Royal House. The procession, which turned into a carnival ended at the Swalaba Market.
