Effia-Kuma (W/R), July 26, GNA - Mr George Christian, a Former Security Coordinator of Ghana Cement Works, has been elected unopposed as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Effia-Kwesimintsim at a Constituency congress in Effia-Kuma, near Takoradi.

Officials from the Electoral Commission (EC), who supervised the elections, declared Mr Christian unopposed after three other contestants had withdrawn.

Mr Christian, who is also a professional football coach and physical training instructor, thanked the members for their support and the confidence reposed in him and said he would live up to expectation. He said the economic hardship facing Ghanaians was a clear indicator that Ghanaians were going to vote massively for the NDC in Election 2004.

Madam Tabitha Quaye, Acting Regional Chairman, advised members of the Party to desist from using abusive language and attacking personalities, adding, "there are so many issues to base your arguments on to convince the electorate".

"Professor Evans Atta Mills, the NDC Flag-Bearer is an embodiment of peace and would like to wrest power from the NPP Government through peaceful means and not through violence", she said.

Mr R. A. Monney, Deputy Regional Secretary, asked the Shama-Ahanta Metropolitan Assembly not to hide behind the elections to abandon its intention to move traders around the Takoradi Market to the one at Apremdo that had become a "white Elephant".

Miss Betty Sam, an aspiring NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Sekondi, said Ghana's political history would be re-written in December when the Party takes over the reins of government.

She said Ghanaians were highly disappointed by the poor performance of the President John Agyekum Kufuor's Administration and were yearning for the return of the NDC to power to make life bearable.
