Odomase (B/A), Sept. 15, GNA - Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the electorate to consider the track record of the party during its eight year term and vote it back to power.

He was addressing a rally at Odomase in Sunyani West constituency at the weekend to introduce Mr.Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the party's parliamentary candidate for Sunyani West in the December elections. The occasion coincided with the launch of the party's campaign in the constituency.

Mr. Asiedu-Nketia called on the people to recall the achievements of Mr. Nyamekye Marfo, a former District Chief Executive for Sunyani and vote massively for him and the flag bearer, Professor John Atta Mills. He lauded the humility, honesty and experience of Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo and said these qualities of the candidate made him to resist all temptations of corruption and abuse of office during his long tenure as the PNDC District Secretary for Jaman for three-and-half years and later as Sunyani DCE for seven-and-a half years. "The NPP has messed up the economy so much so that abject poverty and unprecedented hardships have now become widespread in the country". "Lorry fares paid by the sick to health facilities to access medical care now cost more than the drugs handed out to them while the capitation and the school feeding programmes are nothing to write home about since their impact on both the pupils and parents is negligible", the general secretary stated.

Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo said total revenue received during his entire term in office as DCE for development projects for Sunyani from the Common Fund and other sources amounted to 2.8 billion cedis.

He said this revenue enabled the assembly to complete 175 projects including markets, potable water, classroom block and regular rehabilitation and maintenance of the road network in the district. "It is rather regrettable that the current assembly receives more than 10 times this amount but yet fewer projects have been undertaken." The Sunyani West constituency Chairman of the party Mr. Ishak Twumasi-Ankrah, said the constituency had enjoyed four successive peaceful general elections since 1992 and appealed to NDC supporters and members of the other political parties to work towards ensuring peace during the election.
