A group belonging to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Subin constituency of the Ashanti Region has warned that it will thwart the party’s campaign in the 2016 general elections following their disagreement with the election of a parliamentary candidate for the area.

The group, known as Concerned NDC Youth of Subin, led by one Abdulai Mohammed, has alleged that some constituency executives of the NDC played roles that unduly favoured the eventual winner, Owusu Ababio, in the November 2015 primary. Its members have demanded a rerun of the poll.

But speaking on the matter on Accra News on Friday April 22, 2016, Mr Raymond Tandoh, the NDC’s Ashanti Regional General Secretary assured that regional executives will, on Monday, meet with the aggrieved youth of the party to thrash out the matter.

He said the party was, at the moment, training its agents for the upcoming limited voter registration exercise, which will begin Thursday April 28. He gave the assurance that once that was done with, a meeting will be convened on the matter to settle all differences.

The NDC has targeted one million votes for President John Mahama in the Ashanti Region – a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) – in its bid to get him elected for a second term, while it makes efforts to wrest the Subin seat from the NPP.
