NDC has not implemented any social intervention policy – Ken Agyapong

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has claimed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not implemented a single social intervention policy while in office.

Speaking at a campaign event at Abossey Okai in Accra on September 5, 2024, Ken Agyapong asserted that the NDC prides itself on being a socialist party but becomes a capitalist party when it comes to power.

He indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is a capitalist party, rather implements social interventions like the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme because it knows that these policies are needed to help the private sector thrive.

“The NDC claims that they are a socialist party, meaning they are a party that has the plight of the needy at heart. We, the NPP, say that we believe in capitalism, which empowers private business ownership so that people will be able to fend for themselves.

“However, when you vote for the so-called socialists and they come to power, they turn into capitalists. There is no social intervention the opposition has implemented. The capitalists, whose focus is the growth of private business, are the ones who have seen that if social interventions are not brought in, private businesses in Okaishie and Abbossey Okai would not survive,” he said in Twi.

The Assin Central legislator added, “And because of this, during the era of President Kufuor, he implemented the capitation grant, maternity care was free, and he also brought the National Health Insurance. President Akufo-Addo has brought the free education policy. Let us ask ourselves whether the opposition was able to bring all these things when they came to power.”

Ken Agyapong also urged Ghanaians to vote for the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming December 7, 2024, election.

He said that the opposition National Democratic Congress should be an option for Ghanaians come December 7.
