Accra, March 06, GNA - The incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme and two others, Mr Benjiman Okai, former Constituency Vice Chairman and Mr Walid Anyatei Laryea, have been introduced as contestants for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Odododiodioo seat for this year's elections.
They were introduced to members of the party by the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Daniel Nii Okai, at a meeting in Accra on Wednesday. He reported to the members that, at the end of the two-week nomination period on Monday, the MP and the two other contestants had filed their papers
to seek the nod of the party to contest the seat as NDC candidates. He advised the contestants to conduct their campaign with a sense of decorum, devoid of insults and lies and to dwell on issues instead of personal attacks and violence. Mr. Okai urged them to see themselves as fighting for one goal of ensuring victory for the NDC and to unite to enable the party to win the election.
He explained that with the nomination, the contestants would be vetted by the Constituency and Regional executives and approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party based on the recommendation of the Vetting Committee. Mr Okai stated that, after the NEC scrutiny, a date would be fixed for a delegates' conference and pledged the commitment of the Executives to follow the rules and regulations to the letter to ensure justice and fair play to all the contestants. Mr. Festus Bekoe, Constituency Vice Chairman, appealed to the contestants to prove their commitment to the party by providing logistics for the proper running of the Constituency office. He asked them to assist with a telephone, stationery, an air-conditioner and other equipment for the smooth operation of the office.
Mr Tackie Komme thanked the executives for their hard work and described the contest to select the Parliamentary Candidate as an "internal election, which should make the party stronger at the end of the day".
He called for co-operation and a "healthy competition" between the contestants, saying, "As an MP one has got to project the manifesto of the party and not an individual agenda". "We should forge ahead as one people fighting a common goal to make the NDC better and not to break individuals, which would not help the party," Mr Tackie Komme stated. 06 March 08
