NDC is Coming Back - Ziedeng

THE OUTCOME of last Thursday's bye-election in the Asawase constituency has given hope to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it could come back to power.

"The result is a clear indication that the NDC is coming back," acting General secretary of the party, Mr. Bede A. Ziedeng, told a meeting of journalists in Kumasi at the weekend.

According to him, the increase in the margin of defeat from 4,000 votes in the December 2004 general elections to over 11,000 in the bye-election is an indication that the NDC is growing stronger, while more and more people are getting disillusioned with the economic policies of the ruling party.

Ziedeng said NDC's victory was an expression of the will of the people and that the Asawase constituents did not only speak for themselves but as well for all Ghanaians currently enduring unacceptable economic hardships inflicted on them by the NPP government.

The chief scribe is convinced that, "we (NDC) can defeat the NPP," adding "Asawase is the beginning of the journey back to the Osu Castle in 2008."

He noted also noted that the NDC did not see the victory as its own but rather a victory for democracy, for the people of the Asawase constituency and for all Ghanaians.

Ziedeng called on members and supporters to consolidate the confidence being built up in the party by showing commitment, dedication and hard work.

Meanwhile, the party has expressed its profound appreciation to the founding father, former President Jerry John Rawlings, Flagbearer Professor John Evans Atta Mills, NDC MPs, members of the National Executive Council and all leading members and activists who, in diverse ways, contributed to the party's victory last Thursday.
