Tough-talking former Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Chief Executive, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has described men in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) including himself as faint-hearted, as they’ve not been courageous enough to cut former President J.J Rawlings and Martin Amidu to size.

According to him, it has taken two brave women in the party, former Deputy Chief of Staff, Valerie Sawyerr and Abigail Mensah to stand up to the raving and rantings of the two senior party members whose continuous effusions always cause the NDC bad publicity.

Both ex President Rawlings who’s the founder of the NDC and Martin Amidu who once served as the Attorney General have been a thorn in the flesh of the NDC party, breathing down the neck of former NDC government appointees and consistently accusing them of presiding over corruption while they were in power.

However Valerie Sawyer in a recent epistle has stood up to ex President Rawlings, punching him hard and asking him to spend his energy meaningfully by going to Denkyira Obuasi [New Obuasi] to fight against corruption, if he has nothing important to do to keep him busy.

Abigail Edem Mensah has on her part petitioned the NDC to take disciplinary measures against Martin Amidu who once served as the party’s running mate to the late Prof. Mills in the 2000 general elections for his actions that continue to bring the NDC into disrepute and public ridicule contrary to Article 46(8) of the Party’s constitution; and b. weakened Party unity and cohesion contrary to article 45 of the party’s constitution.”

Speaking to sit-in-host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh stated that Valerie and Abigail should be celebrated for being bold.

“We’ve all these while boasted that we are men, but we’ve not been able to stand up to Rawlings and Martin Amidu who have purposed to rock the NDC’s boat. These women have shown that they are very courageous even than us the men. I salute my sister Abigail for what she’s done, my sister Valerie has also hit the nail on the head. They’ve done a good job. If you look at Martin Amidu’s behaviour and utterances, he should have been sacked by now by the party, but all of us including National Executives, Council of Elders have looked on while he injures the NDC.

“I’ll add the name Yaa Asantewaa to Abigail’s name while I add Margeret Thatcher to my sister Valerie’s name, they’ve done a yeoman’s job. I can now sleep soundly. I’ve been a woman all these while, I couldn’t muster courage to tell it like these two women have done. Now, the pandorax box has been opened, we’ll all jump into the fray.

“We’ve given ex President Rawlings all the due respect all these while as our founder but at the end of the day, he stabs the NDC in the back and gives ammunition to the party’s opponent. Not every elder is needed in a home, some cause problems and give bad advice.”
