Kumasi, Sept.18, GNA-The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its members and supporters to let unity of purpose reign supreme over any personal or group interests.
It said the party's quest for power in the 2008 general elections would remain a mirage if members and supporters fight each other and divide their ranks or group interests.
A statement on the conduct of Ashanti Regional and Constituency Conferences signed by Mr Sly Akakpovie, the Regional Secretary, and issued to the press in Kumasi on Saturday said, "We will render ourselves unattractive for any support and be too feeble for the huge task ahead towards victory in 2008 if we don't work towards unity for victory."
The Regional Secretariat reminded contestants in the constituency elections in the region to conduct their campaigns in an atmosphere of tolerance and utmost civility, avoiding unnecessary vilifications and insults.
The statement said, following a regional executive meeting, the secretariat decided that all constituency conferences were to be completed by October 30.
It said the Regional Youth Conference will be held on Saturday, November 5, and that the meeting also agreed that the Regional Women's Conference will also be held on November 12.
The statement said the Regional Conference would take place on November 26, with the venue yet to be decided.
The statement urged all the constituency executives to speed up the supervision of the branch elections to pave way for an early completion of the Constituency and Regional conferences on schedule.
