The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the Centre for Social Democracy and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation, on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 organised the maiden edition of its pre-election debate for aspirants in the upcoming national executive elections of the NDC.

Addressing the gathering, Acting Director of Elections, Bede Ziedeng said the debate was to create the platform for aspirants to reach out to delegates and make their intended policies known, as the party prepares to vote for its executives.

National Women’s Organiser hopeful, Hajia Zainab Mahama was the only candidate in her category who turned up for the debate.

She noted that Ghanaians are suffering as a result of the “lies” told by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2016 polls which lured the electorate into voting for the then-opposition party.

She charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to adopt measures to fix the many problems confronting the country.

The NDC said it anticipated the non-participation of some aspirants in the debate.

The National Youth Organiser of the party, Siidi Abubakar said all aspirants were duly informed about the debate but the party is yet to find out from the other Women's Organiser hopefuls why they did not show up.
