It is now free for all, anybody at all can walk into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and contest for various positions.

This follows amendment to party guidelines which bar ordinary members of the party from contesting for executive positions and the subsequent court action instituted against the party.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said Mr. Linus Njonolah who went to court over the issue was right in his suit. He congratulated Mr. Linus for his resolute action, saying he is not a villain but a true member of the NDC.

He told newsmen that the NDC is a democratic party and the party constitution is supreme, saying the elections guidelines which debarred others from contesting in Regional party elections and national elections have been repealed.

On the party’s preparations towards the upcoming regional and national executive’s elections, Mr. Asiedu Nketia noted that five-day nominations have been re-opened for interested people to vie for positions in the party.

He disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had met to swiftly repeal the said guide lines to forestall future re-occurrence of the situation.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia stated that the party will make sure all issues are centered on the provisions of the party’s constitution.

Earlier, Mr. Linus and his lawyer, together with the NDC went and talked to the judge in chambers, before the ‘out of court settlement ‘was formally put forward to Mr. Justice Jacob Boon.

Commenting on the merit of out-of-court settlement, Justice Boon said he was happy they have sought an out of court settlement and hailed the party for the move.

He said the case would have wasted time and energy, and it could have lingered in the court for a longer time.

The lawyer of the NDC, Lawyer Moujeeb, told the court that it was a misunderstanding which brought them to court, but was happy it had all ended well.

In a brief comment about the landmark case, Mr. Linus Njonolah, the plaintiff, seen as the hero and doubles as the outgoing TEIN President of Akokerri Training College, stated that democracy has won over dictatorship.

He called on all progressive forces in the NDC to stand up against ineffective leadership, saying he would launch a campaign for a change in the ruling NDC.
