Sissala East Constituency, Tumu
Press release on the activities, nomination and rejection of District Chief Executive
Good morning,
Following the nomination and subsequent rejection of the president’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (Moses Bavia) and the intended re-nomination, we the core Constituency Executives of the Sissala East want to put on record reasons why Moses Bavia did not get the nod and must not be re-nominated.
Ladies and gentlemen, our friends from the press, the security, faithful Akatamansonians and our cherish sympathizers – You will all bear with me that when Moses Bavia was nominated on the 4th of September 2013, the District was in a state of shock and hopelessness. Indeed, it appeared that almost everybody was in a state of confusing, apathy and total disbelieve obviously due to the fact that the nominee was the least expected choice.
But for the timely and wise intervention of the Hon. Regional Minister Dr. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, who called and advised the Constituency Executives to support the president’s nominee and equally advised that the nomination affords us the opportunity to re-unite our party in the district, the nominee couldn’t have obtained the twelve votes that he got.
Adhering to the Minister’s clarion call, the Constituency Chairman and other executives organized four separate meetings at the chairman’s residence paving way for the nominee to dialogue and lobby who ever that matter; including Hon. Assembly members, Founding father, and the Youth of the party in the constituency.
A debriefing meeting with the Hon. Regional Minister was held on Saturday 21st September, 2013 at the Constituency Chairman’s residence in Tumu, which was attended by Hon. Moses Bavia, the Presiding Member of the Sissala East Assembly and Party Executives. At the meeting, the Nominee, Constituency Chairman and Presiding Member took turns to brief the Hon. Regional Minister and assured him that things were moving on smoothly.
On his part, the Nominee agreed that the grounds were very fertile and he was sure of victory and for that matter, did not see the need for a postponement as suggested by the Hon. Regional Minister.
The presiding member and Constituency Chairman admitted that though the grounds were good, there were still some challenges, which Hon. Regional Minister promised to tackle before the date of confirmation. The Hon. Regional Minister fulfilled the promise by having an in house meeting with all the assembly members before the confirmation process began on Wednesday 25th September 2013.
The nominee (Moses Bavia) lacks the courage, knowledge and wisdom to work, act and make decision independently and would be a stooge, who will ascribe to the dictates and influences of others, no wonder his tenure of office as the assembly member for sakai electoral area was so abysmal and shameful that his own family members had to lead the crusade to get him out of office to save the name and reputation of the noble Bavia family from going down the drain.
Moreover, until 2010, when he was appointed as an Assembly Member, he was never an NDC party member and was always actively campaigning against the NDC at sakai his home town and the entire District. In 2006 he won the elections to represent the people of sakai because he was a loyal member of Peoples National Convention (PNC) and Hon. Moses Dani Baah.
It is also a known fact that during this period i.e 2006 – 2010 Moses Bavia could not mobilize his electorate to pay cattle rate due to his gross incompetence, poor leadership qualities coupled with lack of creativity and personal initiation.
The incompetence of Moses Bavia was also clearly exhibited when he was the chairman of the works sub-committee and had to struggle to even organize and chair committee meetings which never ended successfully.
It was during Moses Bavia’s time that, the Sissala East District Assembly recorded its worse ever shoddy works in the building construction field. Mention could be made of the collapse of the school classroom block at Sentie, the ripping off of the District Assembly office complex and many more hence his rejection by his own colleagues. This assertion is still very popular amongst his Colleague Assembly Members, Teachers and the Public.
The nominee revealed openly on RADFORD FM a local community based radio station in Tumu the Sissala East District Capital that, he was rejected because his colleagues Assembly Members and the entire constituency thought that, he was going to be a stooge and a remote controlled by others which clearly confirms the assertion that, he is incompetent indecisive and lacks direction as well as vision to propel the development agenda of the Sissala East District.
The nominee is not popular in the District amongst party faithful’s and this was confirmed when he could not identify some popular Constituency and Regional Party Executives at the Sissala East District Assembly Conference Hall on the date of confirmation e.g. Mr. Adams Issahaku, the Regional organizer
Ladies and gentlemen, colleague executive members, our friends from the media one critical question that we should be asking ourselves and Moses Bavia is why the change of name from Moses Hillia to Moses Bavia?.
Is it true that he was dismissed from Kanton Secondary School after leading students rioting which led to vandalizing school property most especially the burning of their Assistant Headmasters bungalow in 1988?
Is it equally true that he didn’t he serve the three year ban that West African Examination Council slapped on him and the other hooligans? Following this, he had to change his name illegally to hide his identity so that he can write his Ordinary Level Examinations?
The problems or the bad blood that existed between Moses Bavia and most of the Assembly Members may be impossible to resolved because he physical assaulted one of the elected Assembly Members during the run to the voting of the presiding member and the unfortunate and irresponsible manner in which he falsely castigated his colleague Hon. Members by telling them they do not know why their electorate voted for them among a host of other unprintable words.
With the above and many more, we sincerely have the believe that if Hon. Moses Bavia is re-nominated he will be out rightly rejected and can never get the twelve votes he got the last time this is clearly because the rejection of District Chief Executives is not new or peculiar to Moses Bavia and the NDC it happened to the PNC with Alhaji Ahmed Moro Baba in 2001 and Ahmed Issah Bawuorun with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2005 with none of these rejected persons getting a second chance. So his re-nomination will not only be considered as an imposition of an incompetent person on to the people of the Sissala East District to deliberately and consciously retard its developments and equally weaken the party at the grassroots, but is also largely viewed as a calculated attempt to dare the local people. Which if not checked immediately will have dire consequences for the NDC party in the district.
In the light of all these, we wish to appeal to H.E John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana to institute an independent much reliable committee or better still use the BNI to conduct a serious background checks on the applicants or other party faithful’s in the District and not the lousy “alomo” driven research conducted by Dr. Clement Abass Apaak who instead of working for the president is rather allowing himself to be influence by non- starters and drink.
We therefore seriously appeal to H.E John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana to appoint a more competent, very popular, faithful party person and yet appealing to party members and the youth in the constituency.
We therefore pledge our support that we will do everything humanly possible through process and procedure, to get the said candidate duly confirmed, when given the opportunity.
Long live Ghana, Long live NDC, and Long live Sissala East District
Thank you
