Some unidentified supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mpraeso and Atibie in the Mpraeso constituency have attacked and assaulted their Constituency Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Attah-Obeng, alias Soborae, and his two wives at their residence at Kwahu Bepong at the weekend, forcing the chairman and his family to go into hiding.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on telephone from his hideout, Mr Attah-Obeng said the Mpraeso circuit court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei, remanded one Kabiru and Surazu, both supporters of the party, in police custody for a week for contempt of court.

They had assaulted the constituency chairman and some constituency executive members of the party on October 27, 2013 during a constituency executive meeting with some regional and national executive members of the party at Mpraeso.

The accused, together with others, later caused damage to the constituency Mahindra pickup.

He said after the court ruling, while at his shop at Mpraeso, two members of the party came and threatened to kill him on suspicion that he caused the two party members to be remanded in police custody.

Mr Attah-Obeng said he reported the incident to the Mpraeso District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Amoh, at his office.

The constituency chairman said while at the district commander’s office, he had another phone call from his shop that some people had been there and had destroyed some items on sale.

He said he ordered his wife and the shop attendant to lock the shop and go home. He then left the commander’s office and went home but the attackers followed him to his house, forced his doors open and assaulted him.

He and his wife and children fled through the backdoor to a secret place outside the constituency.

When the Mpraeso District Police Commander was contacted, he confirmed that Mr Attah-Obeng had reported the threat to the police who had started investigations into the case but no arrests had been made
