Some aggrieved supporters and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Techiman North and Techiman South constituencies have threatened a demonstration against the leadership of the party in the Municipality.

They have given the national executive of the NDC a one month ultimatum to resolve an alleged impasse between the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Philip Oppong Amponsah and the two NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) in the area.

According to the supporters, the protracted dispute between Mr Adjei Mensah, MP for Techiman South, Mr Alex Kyeremeh MP for Techiman North and the MCE could affect the fortunes of the NDC in Election 2016 if immediate steps are not taken to resolve it.

They said the NDC in the Municipality was divided into the northern and southern constituency caucus which was affecting the unity among the party supporters in the area.

Mr Kwadwo Adjei, a leading member of the NDC in the Brong-Ahafo Region, and spokesman for the aggrieved supporters, told journalists in Techiman that the factionalism had extended into the constituency executives.

He said the bad and unhealthy relationship among the three prominent party personalities in the area had brought division among their followers, creating unnecessary tension in the party.

“We will not sit down unconcerned and allow the personal interests of these personalities to generally affect our fortunes in the 2016 general election”, Mr Adjei said.

He said attempts made by some key personalities in the municipality to resolve the problem had not been successful and called on the national executive of the party to intervene.

“What we are not happy about is even the trading of insults among ourselves on the airwaves”, Mr Adjei, a businessman said,

He said retaining power in 2016 would not be so easy for the NDC, and urged all party supporters and sympathizers to explore how best they could reach out to the grassroots and intensify campaign rather than engaging in petty backbiting and internal wrangling.

Mr Adjei noted that the youth wings held the strength of the NDC and emphasized the importance for the party’s hierarchy to cater for those at the grassroots and motivate them well.
