Accra, Aug. 2, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday expressed its gratitude to supporters of the Party for turning out massively to vote for their Parliamentary candidate Jonathan Nii Tackie Kommey during the Odododiodoo By-election held on August 30 2005. A statement signed by the Acting General Secretary of the Party, Mr Bede Ziedeng also thanked individuals, who supported the Party's campaign trail, the security forces and the Electoral Commission for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election.

Additionally, it extended appreciation to former President Jerry John Rawlings, Professor John Evans Attah Mills, its 2004 Presidential Candidate, the National Chairman, Dr Obed Asamoah and other Executive Members of the Party for their tireless effort to ensure that the seat was retained.

"The trouncing received by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the polls was as the result of our collective efforts, and we need to congratulate ourselves for it", the statement said.

It said the Odododiodoo victory was not only for NDC but also for all Ghanaians and for democracy, adding: "It is the continuation of the movement of the Party to the Castle in 2008, which was ignited at Asawase."

"It indicated that the victory was a clear evidence that the NDC had become unstoppable, while signalling the collapse of the NPP and also represented the determination of Ghanaians to ensure that they received a better deal from the people, who are entrusted with the power of governance and to make them accountable."

The statement, however, appealed to its members to close their ranks and remain focused since there was absolute strength in unity.
