Kumasi, Sept. 27, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated its determination to increase its parliamentary seats in the Kumasi metropolis to not less than four in the 2008 general elections.
Alhaji Hamidu Mohammed, the newly-elected Co-ordinating Committee Chairman for NDC in the Kumasi metropolis, who announced this, said everything possible would be done to help achieve this goal. He made this known in his acceptance speech after his election in Kumasi.
Alhaji Hamidu also promised to unite all members of the party within the metropolis and appealed to both the regional and national executives of the party to assist the committee achieve their aims. He said he would operate an open and transparent administration to enable all members to contribute their quota towards developing democracy in the party.
In the election exercise, Ahmed Abubakr and Amina Johusa were elected as vice-chairman and women organiser respectively, while Ibrahim Yakubu was returned unopposed as the secretary.
Mr. Baba Jamal, Deputy National General Secretary of the NDC, inaugurating the newly elected executives urged them to realise that their election represent the development of democracy in the party and they should work hard to enable the party win 2008 election. Among those present at the function were Hajia Lardi, Deputy National Propaganda Secretary and Alhaji Mohammed Sani, First Vice-Chairman of the Ashanti NDC.
