Takoradi, Sept.21 -GNA-Sitting National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament and prospective candidates in the Western Region have been cautioned to desist from campaigning with the view of running on the party's ticket in the 2008 elections.

A press statement signed by Musah Adamu, Deputy Regional Secretary said since nominations for the constituencies were yet to be opened, any form of campaigning would be contrary to the party's constitution and directives from the NDC national headquarters. "Since no time-table and directives have been received from the national headquarters, the regional secretariat takes a serious exception to any violation of the party's constitution, it said.

It reminded members of a circular from the party headquarters in July this year warning members against "anti-party activities" and said a separate time-table for nominations in the constituencies with sitting MPs would soon be issued.

The statement said the Regional Secretariat of the party would regard the campaigning of sitting MPs and prospective candidates as "anti-party acts calculated to cause confusion in the party. It said those who flout the directives or violate the constitution of the party would be severely sanctioned.
