NDC youth asked to unite

Navrongo, (UER), Nov. 03, GNA - Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, has called on party faithful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially the youth, to unite for the development of the party. He said there was the need to continue playing the role of foot soldiers, showing solidarity and oneness among all functionaries of the party.

Mr Woyongo made the call when he addressed freshmen and women of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Navrongo. He noted that TEIN as a branch of the NDC youth organization should consider its role in the development and advancement of the party very crucial.

He urged them to have a thorough knowledge of the manifesto of the Party and follow through the day to day issues that the government was confronted with and how they were being tackled. Mr Woyongo appealed to members of TEIN to continue to exercise patience with the government as it tried to fix the economy and bring it back on track.

He entreated all to behave maturely while dealing with political opponents and said there was the need to strive hard to woo them to the folds of the NDC by being tolerant, forbearing and accommodating to dissenting views.

Mr Woyongo emphasized that the success of every nation depended greatly on the vitality of its youth because they would grow up to replace the aged in the labour front and thereby increase productivity. He appealed to the students to take their studies seriously so as to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for their future personal development and the development of the Party and the country. He said the Government was deeply committed to the effective mobilization of the youth, the productive engagement of their talents and energies, and the creation of an enabling environment for realization of their full potentials.

"Being future leaders, government hopes to bring the youth to the governance table and engage them in civil responsibility debates as well as involving them in the decision making-process," he said. Mr Robert Yel-Oni, Regional Youth Secretary, said TEIN as an integral part of NDC had a role to play in the socio-economic development of the nation.

He said TEIN must be at the core of policy initiative so as to help government build the needed framework that would create sustainable opportunities for the people of Ghana. 03 Nov. 09
