Dr. Kwasi Ofei-Agyemang, founding member of the new breakaway party, the National Democratic Party (NDP), has refuted claims that the party is considering rejoining the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Former President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings have been linked to the NDP.

Although they have neither confirmed nor denied the speculation, suggestions have been made by key members of the NDC that the presence of Mr. Rawlings at last week's special national delegates congress of the ruling party was a sign of unity for which reason the NDP would be folded up.

But in an interview with the Daily Guide over the weekend, Dr. Ofei-Agyeman insisted “the presence of former President Rawlings at the NDC congress in Kumasi is inconsequential to the fortunes of the NDP as a political party.”

This, according to him, was because “the NDP is made up over 1,700 founding members from all over Ghana who have thought through the need for the formation of the party and cannot fall victim to illogical cultural hegemony or intellectual domination.”

He considers the ongoing speculation spurious since “the government does not have anything more to offer to the young men and women of this country whose lives seem involved in one crisis after the other .”

“Even though the NDP is a social democratic organization, political phenomena whether it derives from the conservative or radical, can only be grasped through a total from all sides at once so that a widely ramified view far beyond the ordinary is required for its elucidation,” he noted.

“The ruling government has in spite of the abundant resources nature has endowed our dear country with failed to add value to structure in place to promote agriculture and young men and women of this country are yearning for,” he added.

In that regard, Dr. Ofei-Agyeman said “we are looking forward to the issuance of the final certificate from the Electoral Commission so that we can participate fully in the December 7th elections”.
