Half Assini (W/R), Oct. 10, GNA - The Shama Municipal Coordinator of the Coalition of Women in Governance, an NGO, Madam Cynthia Sonlika, has appealed to political parties to let women to contest unopposed in the 21 new constituencies to be created by the Electoral Commission.

She said this was the only way the parties could help more women to get into parliament. Madam Sonlika made the appeal when addressing the congregation at a Roman Catholic Church at Half Assini on Sunday. She said women could perform creditably like their male counterparts when placed in high positions and appealed to the government to put more women in sensitive positions. Madam Sonlika said until women increased their representation in parliament and district assemblies, they would continue to be sidelined by their male counterparts in decision making. She appealed to girls to take their education seriously to enable them become future leaders.

Mrs Gifty Erzoah Bebodu, Jomoro District Coordinator of the COWIG, urged women to participate in public and political activities.
