Kumasi, Oct. 20, GNA - Mr Edward Akuamoah-Boateng, a Founding Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly advised the incumbent Ashanti Regional Executives of the Party not only to resign their positions, but also to desist from contesting any position at the forthcoming regional congress of the Party.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng said this had become necessary, in view of the fact that the Regional Executives had failed in their duty to steer the Party off troubled waters and to also resolve petty squabbles that had threatened to disintegrate the NPP at the regional level. Mr Akuamnoah-Boateng gave the advice in an interview newsmen in Kumasi, on Thursday on the need for a new breed of Leaders for the NPP in the Ashanti Region.

He said the incumbent Regional Executives together with some constituency chairmen had adopted a divide-and-rule tactics thereby jeopardizing the fortunes and chances of the NPP, which had previously stood as one big family.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng accused the Regional Executives of not first attempting to resolve petitions addressed to them from the various constituencies before the holding of constituency elections. He said such an act amounted to betrayal of the rules, regulations and constitution of the NPP and undermined the confidence Party members had in the Regional Executives.

Mr Akuamoah-Boateng, who is also the Assemblyman for Ahensan Electoral Area, cited the situation and petitions emanating from Oforikrom, Bekwai, Asokwa, Kuntanase, Obuasi and Ejisu to the Regional Executives, but which they had failed to resolve. He said all these developments were issues for serious concern and that it was only a new breed of young and energetic crop of Regional Executives that could bring life into the Party, hence the need to change the Executives.
