NPP Chair: Investigate candidates? backgrounds properly
THE Chairman of the Nhyiaeso constituency of the New Patriotic Party, George Kofi Adjei, has made a passionate appeal to the leadership of the party to conduct a thorough examination into the background of all the candidates contesting for national executive positions in the NPP, especially that of the national chairman, to avoid the fate that has befallen the Nkoranza North Member of Parliament, Nana Eric Amoateng.
Kofi Adjei also expressed grave concern that some of the contestants for national executive positions are being recommended by people such as Kwesi Pratt who is a known critic of the NPP government and said it will be suicidal for the party if such individuals are chosen to lead the NPP to the 2008 elections, which he described as ?watershed elections.?
The Nhyiaeso NPP chairman said besides competence and efficiency, delegates at the December 17 NPP National Delegates Conference should vote for individuals with ?unblemished and unquestionable character.?
?We should not play into the hands of our political opponents who are waiting on the sidelines to capitalise on any blunder we will commit in the choice of our national executives,? Kofi Adjei said. He said several of the candidates are making promises that they cannot fulfil and urged the delegates to vote for ?people with proven track records in promise delivery.?
According to Mr Kofi Adjei who is also know as ?Geokad? there is the need for the delegates to ensure an ethnic mix in the selection of national executives for the party, adding that the time has come for the party to correct the perception that it is of a particular ethnic orientation.
He also expressed concern about the use of abusive language by some of the contestants in their campaigns and said whoever is elected into office would need the support of the losing candidates and appealed to all the aspirants to be civil in their campaigns.
