NPP Executives outline action plan for Election 2008

Accra, 11 Jan. GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday outlined a plan of action towards maintaining political power after the end of President John Agyekum Kufuor's term of office in 2008. The programme to be outdoored by the National Executive includes rejuvenation of all Party structures, embarking on massive membership drive and offering the necessary incentives to accentuate the spirit of volunteerism in the Party.

Nana Ohene Ntow, the Party's General Secretary, stated at the presentation of a 17,000-dollar Peugeot 307 Saloon car to Mr Emmanuel Akrashi Amarku of Accra, first prize-winner of the Party's 2004 Electoral Fund Raising Raffle.

Presenting the keys of the car to Mr Amarku, who is a member of South Ablekuma Constituency of the Party, the General Secretary said the new administration under the chairmanship of Mr Mac-Manu would persuade all members to come on board.

"We would pursue an open door policy to consolidate the position of the NPP as the governing Party in order to guarantee the nation's continued rapid development, adopt pragmatic and regular interactive programme with the press to deal with bad propaganda and publicity," he said.

Nana Ntow urged the media to desist from rumour peddling, vilification of leaders and the use of innuendoes in news reportage and discussions, which according to him had become the stock in trade of some journalists and political leaders.

The NPP General Secretary used the occasion to express the Party's gratitude to the media for the supportive publicity before, during and after the National Delegates Conference of the Party in December 2005. On NPP fund raising programmes, Nana Ntow said the Party would organise a variety of activities between now and Elections 2008 aimed at mobilising funds periodically instead of relying on well-wishers and individual financiers all the time.

He said: "The NPP has a reputation for being resourceful and we as National Executives are determined to uphold and improve upon our channels of raising funds to avoid the temptation of dipping our hands into State funds."

Mr Amarku commended the Party for playing according to the rules, noting "this is democracy at play and urged other members to patronise other fund raising activities to be organised by the Party". Prizes to other winners would be presented with their prizes at a later date.
