NPP Holds Strategic Election Workshop

Bolgatanga, Aug. 17, GNA-The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Peter Mac Manu, has stated that plans were far advanced and strategies put in place to ensure victory during the 2008 elections.

The National Chairman of the Party made the remark at a two-day workshop on Thursday in Bolgatanga aimed at equipping constituency and regional executives with the appropriate skills in leadership, information management and how to strategise to win the 2008 elections. Mr Manu explained that the expectation of the workshop was to ensure that the constitution and ideology of the party was well entrenched; ensure conflict management and to strengthen the administration capacity of the party to pave way for victory in 2008 by winning more Parliamentary seats.

He urged party executives to interact with other political parties and live exemplary lives to win more souls for the party.

"Voters are more discerning and as party executives you need to work assiduously to meet their challenges and satisfy them," he stated.

He also urged the executives to facilitate the mobilization of more youth and women into the party since they formed the bulk of the population.

Mr. Manu appealed to Executives of the party to use the appropriate channel in resolving conflicts within the party when they arose instead of attacking personalities and stressed that, there was the need to uphold and enhance unity within the party.

He noted that the NPP shared the values and philosophy of peace and respect for press freedom and fundamental human rights and had also enhanced the social and economic lives of Ghanaians. Mr. Manu mentioned the introduction of the Capitation Grants, the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Mass Metro Transport System as some of the achievements of the party.

"We are not scared about the 700 dollars as alleged to have been raised by the National Democratic Party (NDC) outside to be used for its campaigns. The little that the NPP have would be used judiciously. It is better to teach somebody how to fish than to give him fish," Mr Manu pointed out.

The General Secretary of the Party, Nana Ohene Ntow on his part stated that the party was more poised to win more seats in the region, noting that the two seats won out of 13 by the party at the last election was not enough.

" We need to work harder to capture the rest of the 11 seats and also win more souls for the party for victory in the impending elections," he stated.

Nana Ntow stressed that, the party would not countenance any political party or any individual who would want to intimidate voters not to vote for the party as it happened during the last elections in Bawku.

The Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ahmed Tahiru, in a welcoming address announced that there was no cordiality between the party and the Government in the area, especially between party executives and District Chief Executives (DCES).
