NPP MP: ‘Ghanaians are paying for darkness’

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama in Kumasi, Kwabena Kokofu, has observed that Ghanaians are paying high electricity bills, even though power is being rationed.

He noted with concern that bills that people paid before the erratic power supply, popularly called ‘Dumsor’ set in, had been maintained or even increased.

The Bantama MP said logically, it doesn’t make sense for bills of constant power supply and bills of erratic power supply to be the same, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) supplies power for only 12 hours after which consumers are plunged into darkness for 24 hours.

Mr. Kwabena Kokofu stated that the people are getting minimum supply of power now so ideally their bills should have also been reduced.

He has therefore charged the ECG to ensure that consumers are not charged exorbitant fees during this power crisis era.

Speaking on Hello Fm, the MP said the power being used by the people should correspond with their bills for fairness to prevail.

Mr Kokofu jabbed President Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for doing absolutely nothing to curb the volatile power situation.

He said Nana Akufo-Addo, standard-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would have found an immediate solution to the power crisis if he had been the sitting president of Ghana.
