The newly elected Regional Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the newly created North East Region have paid courtesy call on the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga.

The executives led by Mr Fuseini Nurudeen, the newly elected Regional Chairman of the party visited the Nayiri at his palace in Nalerigu to thank him for honouring their invitation at the maiden regional delegates’ conference that took place on Saturday.

The North East Region, one of the two regions curved out of the then Northern Region with Nalerigu as its capital, is one of the six newly created regions in the country.

As a result of this regional reorganization, it became necessary for the party to elect new executives to effectively man the affairs of the party in the region in its bid to retain power especially during the 2020 elections.

Mr Nurudeen said the courtesy call was to express the party’s gratitude to the Overlord and reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing sustainable development projects to boost the economy and improve upon livelihoods.

The chairman indicated that for the past two and half years that the party has been in power, the country had witnessed huge development transformation and lots of social interventions including the implementation of the free senior high school, one district one factory, one village one dam, planting for food and jobs restoration of teachers and nurses trainee allowances.

Mr Nurudeen explained that contrary to assertions by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that government had not implemented any visible development; the free senior high school for example had afforded vulnerable children the opportunity to be educated, which was not the case under NDC.

Mr Sulley Sambian, the North East Regional Secretary of the Party explained that although the NDC described itself as a social democrat party, there was nothing in their policies that suggested that they were interested in the welfare of Ghanaians. He said lots of the social intervention policies such as the National Health Insurance Scheme, the Metro Mass Transit that were making impact in the lives of the people were implemented by the NPP government both present and past.

“Today we are witnessing stability in the prices of food. We no longer dance to the whims and caprices of the IMF because we have since weaned ourselves from the Breton Woods. Our sense of pride and dignity as a people is being gradually restored.”

He asked Ghanaians to rally behind the NPP to accelerate the development agenda of the country.

The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area used the opportunity to thank the government for the creation of the North East Region and appealed to government to implement policies that would enable the virgin region catch up with other regions.

He advised the newly elected executives to work together in peace to propel accelerated development of the region and help improve the standards of living of the people.
