The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Computer (GIFEC), Kofi Asante has filed his nomination forms to contest for the New Patriotic Party's primary slated for September 28, 2019.
Kofi Asante was the National Democratic Congress' Parliamentarian for Wassa Amenfi West Constituency, but resigned after two years and defected to the New Patriotic Party later.
He is contesting with three others to represent the NPP in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
Political analysts and various surveys conducted put him ahead of the other contestants.
A group calling itself "Friends of Kofi Asante" this week paid his filing fee of twenty thousand Ghana cedis (20,000gh cedis) for him and also organized a mammoth float from Melody Hotel to the Party Office in Asankrangwa where they were met on arrival by the three-member Vetting Committee who scrutinized his papers, bank draft of face value twenty thousand Ghana cedis and after, confirmed him waiting for the vetting process soon.
Mr Asante, when he emerges winner in the contest will be the first Ghanaian to win Parliamentary seat from the two major parties in the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
He was accompanied by almost all the NPP delegates in the Wassa Amenfi West Constituency, followed by huge sympathisers from the Melody Hotel to grace the occasion at the party office at Asankrangwa.
After his nomination forms were accepted, his supporters took to the streets to jubilate for the first step success.
In an interview with Daniel Kaku, Kofi Asante appealed to NPP delegates to give him the nod to wrestle the seat which is his baby from the National Democratic Congress' since he is the only one among the aspirants who have won the seat before and enumerated a lot of achievements he achieved as the District Chief Executive, Member of Parliament in the Constituency and currently the Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC which are unprecedented in the history of Wassa Amenfi West.
He also pleaded with supporters to devoid acrimony, mudslinging, insults and other irresponsible behaviours since that characters will make it difficult for reconciliation after the primaries and said without unity the NPP will find it difficult to wrestle the seat from the NDC.
He took advantage of the atmosphere to promise to deal with the deplorable roads in the Constituency which has become an albatross to the residents of the area and also to improve agricultural research to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
Many people interviewed including NDC members promised to give Hon. Kofi Asante the nod if he won the NPP primaries and contest the Wassa Amenfi West seat due to his unprecedented achievements he has choked in the Constituency.
Friends of Kofi Asante later organised a mini-rally and party and the media including the international media and some delegates were present at a plush Melody Hotel in Asankrangwa.
