The Paramount Chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng has debunked rumours that he has endorsed Micheal Okyere Baafi-Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Free Zones Authority in the upcoming Parliamentary Primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kasapa News has gathered that some Chiefs in the traditional area were influenced to convince some delegates to vote for Micheal Okyere Baafi at the blind side of the Omanhene who is currently outside the country.

Upon hearing the information, Daasebre Oti Boateng instructed his sub Chiefs to hold a presser to denounce the claims.

At a Press conference held Saturday, June 13, 2020 addressed by the Gyaasehene of New Juaben Nana Twumasi Darkwa on behalf of the Omanhene stated that these claims are “unfounded and without merit”.

“Firstly, it is against the tenet of the constitution for Chiefs to openly endorse, identify with political parties, and by extension endorse a candidate to an election on the platform of Political parties. Second, the Omanhene’s Palace is open to all and so by just entering the palace cannot be construed as an endorsement by the Omanhene.”

He added “as a Paramount Chief, it is my responsibility not only to safeguard the dignity and sanctity of the institution of Chieftaincy, but also to ensure that Chieftaincy become the rallying point of leadership for all irrespective of ones’ cultural, religious, and Political differences”

The Traditional Council stated that it welcomes and supports all shades of political leadership with the mandate of the citizens to govern this country.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Mark Assibey Yeboah who is Chairman of the Economic Management Team of Government and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament is keenly being contested by the CEO of GFZA Michael Okyere Baafi for the second time having been defeated in 2015.
