Tamale, Dec. 13 GNA - The Youth Wing of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tamale on Saturday congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor on his re-election and thanked Ghanaians for renewing his mandate.

They pledged that the NPP Youth in Tamale would not do anything to disturb the peace or compel the Government to re-impose the curfew or the state of emergency in the Dagbon Traditional Area.

Speaking at a press conference in Tamale, Mr Harruna Abubakari Sadiq, a Spokesperson for the Youth, called on the security agencies to speed up investigations into the deaths of the Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention people's Party (CPP), Alhaji Issa Mobilla, who died in military custody, and two other NPP members, Abu Hanifa Baasha and Ahmed Yakubu aka "Iran Iraq" for the whole world to know the truth. He said, even though, the people of Dagbon did not vote for the NPP, the local branch of the Party accepted the defeat and was now working towards uniting and developing the Region and would not do anything to disturb the peace.

Mr Sadiq called for thorough investigations into the death of Baasha and Yakubu at Jakpahi and Gbullung, respectively.

He said members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) chased away polling agents of the NPP in almost all the NDC strongholds where there was no security presence.

Mr Sadiq said an eyewitness who followed Baasha to monitor the elections told the Youth that in all the polling stations they visited in the Kunbungu area, they were chased away by irate youth in the villages, who claimed NPP agents were not allowed there. He said on voting day some youth laid ambush at the outskirts of Jakpahi village and killed Baasha and burnt his motorcycle but others managed to escape.

He alleged that Yakubu a.k.a "Iran Iraq" was arrested in another ambush in a village near Gbullung and tied up with ropes and sent to the Gbullung Chief's Palace, where he was tortured to death.

The Spokesperson said the NDC youth also attacked and vandalised the car belonging to Ex-Sergeant Karimu at Ward F Polling Station in Dakpemfong Electoral Area and indicated that there were a lot of cases, which were yet to be reported to the Police.

Meanwhile the CPP in statement signed by Dr Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary, said the Party had learnt with rude shock and utter disbelief the death of Alhaji Molbila and called for thorough investigations into the matter.
