NPP activists at Offinso South root for MP

Offinso (Ash), April 17, GNA- Some supporters, activists and polling station chairmen of the Offinso South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have kicked against what they said were attempts by some aggrieved members of the party to discredit Dr. Owusu Achaw Duah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area. They said the MP had within the one and half years of his tenure in office proved to be development-oriented and must be allowed to continue with his good works, contrary to speculations that he was not performing. They therefore urged the aggrieved members and well-meaning supporters of the party to support the MP in his work for the benefit of the constituency and the NPP in general. The group made the call at a press conference at Offinso on Wednesday. Mr Owusu Manu Snr, spokesperson for the group, noted that under the leadership of Dr. Duah, the youth at Offinso South had seen tremendous improvement in their lives, which was evidenced in the high number of students and professionals who had gained employment in the various sectors of the economy.

"As we are speaking now most of the youth at the constituency had been enlisted into the military and police, whilst a substantial number had also gained admissions to teacher training colleges, nursing training colleges, polytechnics and universities all over the country through the instrumentality of the MP", he stated. Besides, he said, the MP had also managed to source for funds to train school drop-outs, petty traders and some unemployed women in the constituency to equip them with employable skills coupled by his general contribution to the educational development of the area. He also cited the granting of credit facilities to women traders and the MP's cordial relations with his constituents as some of his achievements within the short period he had been in office.

Mr Manu expressed his disappointment at attempts by some of the party faithfuls to disrupt the activities and laudable ideas of the MP through unsubstantiated allegations and back-biting, saying, "these people should endeavour to be supportive of the party's agenda and activities instead of fomenting trouble and division in the area." He said they should remain calm and exercise restraint to allow the MP to continue with his good plans for the constituency to enable the NPP to chalk a landslide victory in the 2008 elections.
