NPP and NDC split votes in Jaman Districts

Drobo, Dec 8, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) split votes in Jaman South and North Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region, according to certified results released by the District Electoral Officer for Jaman South and North, Mr Martin Kusi Adu-Gyamfi.

President John Agyekum Kufuor, Presidential candidate for the NPP, secured 19,499 or 62.3 per cent out of total of 31,283 valid votes cast as against 11,331 or 36.2 per cent ballots polled by Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

Dr Edward Mahama, Presidential candidate for the People's National Convention (PNC) and the Grand Coalition, followed with 287 votes or 0.9 per cent while Mr George Aggudey, Presidential candidate for the Convention People's Party (CPP), polled 176 votes or 0.6 per cent of the total votes cast.

In the 2000 general election in the then Jaman District, Prof Atta Mills polled 20,021 or 49.4 per cent votes out of a total of 40,503 valid ballots cast while President Kufuor polled 18,854 or 46.5 per cent of the total valid ballots cast.

In the 2004 Parliamentary Election, Ms Anna Nyamekye of the NPP and Member of Parliament (MP) for the former Jaman District, now separated into two constituencies, polled 17,842 or 57.2 per cent of the total of 31,219 votes to beat her closest rival, Ahmed Shams Dinu of the NDC who secured 12,085 or 38.7 per cent of the valid votes cast.

Osei Koranteng of the People's National Convention (PNC) polled 782 votes or 2.5 per cent while Oppong Kwabena Martin of the Democratic People's Party (DPP) had 173 or 0.6 per cent of the total votes cast.

In the newly created Jaman North Constituency with its capital at Sampa, Professor Atta Mills, Presidential candidate of the NDC, secured 12,253 or 54.1 per cent of the total votes of 22,646 as against 9,986 or 44.1 per cent of the valid votes polled by President Kufuor.

Dr Edward Mahama, Presidential candidate for the People's National Convention (PNC) polled 207 votes or 0.9 of the total votes cast while CPP Presidential candidate George Aggudey secured 200 votes or 0.9 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

In the Parliamentary Election, NDC Parliamentary candidate Asum Ahensah Alexander polled 12,027 or 52.5 per cent of the total votes of 22,888 to beat his closest contestant Dr Kofi Oti Adinkrah of the NPP who polled 10,424 or 45.5 per cent of the total votes cast. Twene Aduasare of the CPP trailed with 437 votes or 1.9 of the total valid ballots cast.

In the 2000 parliamentary election, Ms Nyamekye polled 19,720 or 48.3 per cent of the valid ballots to beat her closest contestant, Nicholas Appiah-Kubi, who followed very closely with 18,807 or 46.0 per cent of the valid votes cast.

Clement Anana who stood on the ticket of the National Reform Party followed with 1,591 or 3.9 per cent of the total valid ballots cast, Stephen Kwabena Nkyibena, who polled 403 votes or 1.0 per cent of the valid ballots cast and Musah Gyasi of the PNC who had 348 votes or 0.9 per cent of the total valid ballots cast for that year.
