The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the violent post-election disturbances reported in parts of the country.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, December 12, 2024, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rein in its supporters and put an immediate stop to the acts of violence.

The NPP expressed disappointment with the conduct of certain individuals, highlighting that these disturbances appear orchestrated and led by some Members of Parliament (MPs) who were reportedly promised key positions in the incoming government.

"The President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, should demonstrate his love for this country by taking steps to halt these acts immediately," he urged.

Afenyo-Markin further questioned what might have transpired had the NDC lost the election.

"If you consider this action in light of all that is happening, one is compelled to ask—had the NDC lost the election, what would have been their response? Is this evidence that the leadership of the party was prepared and rehearsed for chaos in the event of a loss?" he asked.

The NPP emphasised the need for peace and adherence to the rule of law, especially following reports of attacks and vandalism of state property in several areas.
