The Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dickson Atta Nketsiah, popularly called ‘Kendicks’ has warned the regional executive of the party not to publicly comment or support candidates vying for the position of flagbearer of the party.
The move, according to him, would help to ensure discipline in the party ahead of the party’s primaries, hopefully on December 6, 2014.
He was of the conviction that the NPP would use all legitimate means possible to win the 2016 elections.
“The failure of the current government makes it imperative for the NPP to use all legitimate means to win power come 2016,” he said.
He however pointed out that winning the 2016 general elections would not be so easy, but was confident that with hard work the NPP would triumph in the region and the nation as a whole.
He stated, “Let us show love to our party members and even our opponents, particularly those from NDC, so that we can win them for the NPP.”
He implored all the executives of the 26 constituencies in the region to map out strategies that would enable them to raise funds for themselves for the activities of the party at the grassroots and not always depend on the regional or national executives for resources.
“Yes, sometimes some support may come from the region or national but please don’t wait for those ones before you move out, please try to raise something internally and if we see that you are working then we can come in with some help,” he stressed.
Kendicks was speaking at the regional delegates’ conference of the NPP held at Asankragwa in the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Region, to elect members to represent the region on the party’s National Council.
In all, six party members, comprising three executives and three non-executive members were elected.
The non-executive members were Joseph Boahen Aidoo, former MP for Amenfi East and former Western Regional Minister; Dr. Kweku Afriyie, former Health Minister and Frank Enti also called Franketh, a former constituency chairman of the party in Takoradi.
The three executive members included the Regional Chairman, Dickson Nketsiah; the Secretary, Charles Bissue and the 2nd Regional Vice Chairman, Francis Ndede Siah.
John Boadu, national organiser of the party who swore in the elected representatives, reminded all executives of the NPP that they have a responsibility to ensure the party wins the 2016 elections and that posterity would not forgive the party if it failed to recapture power.
“Ghanaians have confidence in the NPP because they believe we have the men and women who can put our country on a really solid path of development and transformation,” he added.
