The Chairman of the Three Northern Regions NPP Activists, Mr. Awudu Haruna Sunrise, has warned all self-seeking individuals lobbying for various political appointments.

He advised those chasing appointments in order to acquire wealth to look elsewhere, since the Akufo-Addo-led administration will not condone any acts of corruption.

The Three Northern Regions NPP Activists is a grassroots political organisation that has mobilised support from the people of the three Northern regions, both at home and across the country, since 2008.

The Chairman stated that the New Patriotic Party government cannot afford to soil its image with corruption as the previous NDC administration did.

Mr. Sunrise issued the warning in response to concerns being raised by party supporters from various constituencies in the three northern regions, regarding the controversies surrounding the selection of candidates for appointment as MMDCEs.

The Chairman expressed displeasure at the way and manner constituency executives are going about the whole selection process, which is fraught with alleged bribe taking by ostensibly to impose candidates on the people.

Chairman Sunrise observed that the NPP needs to increase its support base in the three Northern regions, in order to win more parliamentary seats in the next elections, and, as such, cannot compromise in ensuring that suitable candidates are chosen to represent the President in the various MMDAs across the three regions.

The Chairman warned the national leadership of the party not to choose candidates based on recommendations from chiefs and so called “lobbyists”, but rather pay particular attention to the voices at the grassroots.

He also appealed to the appointment bodies to go to the ground and pick people, not academicians, but those who can work.

Mr. Sunrise said his group will monitor DCEs in their interest areas closely to help the government fight against corruption.

The group is, however, grateful to the President for the composition of the government, as far a Northern representation is concerned.

The Chairman said the creation of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner Cities alone is an indication that the President has the welfare of the people in the three Northern regions at heart, as a result of which he has pledged his group’s continuous support to the party.
