NPP has not met Ghanaians' expectations

Adutwie (B/A) Oct. 5, GNA - Mr Alex Baffour, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) official in-charge of special duties in Techiman Municipality at the weekend said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had not met people's expectation to reverse the stagnation in the economy and urged Ghanaians not to retain the Party in power in December.

"It is in the NPP era that living conditions have worsened and there is every indication that the Government has failed to fulfil the promises it made during the 2000 electioneering campaign", he said.

Addressing meetings with NDC Executives at Adutwie, Tanoase and Tuobodom in the Municipality, Mr Baffour urged members of the Party not to believe the claim and speculations peddled by the NPP that the selection of Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni from the Andani gate by Professor John Evans Atta Mills as his running mate was aimed at creating tension.

"The fact that Alhaji Mumuni is from the Andani gate will not bring about any tension just as the selection of the current Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama from the Abudu Gate, was not considered so", he said. Mr Baffour said the NPP could not dictate to the NDC as to what it should do and what it should not do, particularly in the selection of its candidates.

He asked NDC members and supporters to dismiss the claim by the NPP that it had performed better in its three-and-a-half years rule than the PNDC/NDC period.

Mr Baffour called on traditional rulers not to dabble in partisan politics as that could bring disrespect to the chieftaincy institution. He advised settler farmers, who were allegedly being threatened with quit order should they vote for NDC to remain calm, saying that there was no law in Ghana to that effect.

Mr Alex Kyeremeh, aspiring parliamentary candidate of Techiman North Constituency, expressed optimism that the NDC would retain constituency seat and recapture the South in Election 2004 and asked the Executives to embark on house-to-house campaign towards achieving this goal.
