Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has hit back at Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda for saying she had no significant political influence in the Navrongo Constituency apart from going there on beer-drinking escapades.

Mr Adda had made the claims in response to a question on whether or not Ms Abayage would be a formidable opponent if she contested the New Patriotic Party(NPP) primaries in the constituency as was reported by MyNewsGh.com.

Ms Tangoba has now replied after confirming that she has picked nomination forms to contest the Navrongo Central primaries on the ticket of the ruling NPP

“I don’t know what is special about Navrongo beer but I know what is special about Navrongo is the togetherness, the socialization, the camaraderie… Most of Navrongo people are living in the diaspora so once in a while when we get back to Navrongo we like to socialize," she said in a reply to the Aviation Minister’s comment.

She, however, declined to comment specifically on whether or not she drank beer in the constituency, which clearly was a dismissive remark from Mr Adda.

Before being appointed Regional Minister, Ms Tangoba Abayage served as Ghana’s ambassador to Italy. It was widely rumoured that she had been brought back to the region to contest Mr Adda for the Parliamentary seat.

Last Friday, Ms Tangoba Abayage for the first time publicly announced her decision to contest the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency.

“Earlier today I paid GH¢2,000 in Bank draft in the name of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to contest in the parliamentary primaries for the Navrongo Central constituency,” she disclosed.
