The EC has been given up to close of day June 26, 2024, to present the ballot boxes and register
The Tamale High Court has mandated the Electoral Commission (EC) officials of West Mamprusi Municipality to present the ballot box from the NPP Walewale primary held on January 27, 2024.
Additionally, the court has directed the submission of the electoral register to the court's registry by the end of the next working day, June 26, 2024.
This directive supports the motion by plaintiff Hajia Lariba Zuwera, who requested the Walewale Constituency's Electoral Commission to produce both records.
Previously, on June 24, Justice Richard Kugyapaw issued an injunction against Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, prohibiting him from presenting himself as the New Patriotic Party (N)PP) parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency in the North East Region.
This injunction was a response to a challenge by the sitting MP, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, regarding the primary election results.
Dr. Kabiru had been declared the victor by the EC, as having defeated Hajia Lariba Abudu with 145 votes in the primary.
In the wake of the contested results, Hajia Lariba Abudu brought the matter before the Tamale High Court.
Seeking to resolve the dispute, the NPP proposed an out-of-court settlement.
On March 27, 2024, Justice Richard Kogyapaw of the Tamale High Court acceded to the party's request, allowing a six-week period for an out-of-court resolution of the impasse.
