The Ashanti Regional leadership of Ghana’s biggest opposition party has endorsed the flagbearer aspirations of two-time presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.
Regional Chairman, Antwi Boasiako, declared the Region’s support for the former Attorney General on behalf of the executives, constituency chairmen, members of the National Council, and members of parliament when Akufo-Addo toured the area on Thursday to campaign ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries.
"It is Nana Akufo-Addo's time," Wontumi, as he is popularly known, declared during the tour.
Wontumi said when the results of the August 31 Special Electoral College and the October 18 presidential primary of the party are declared from the Ashanti Region, "none of the other aspirants should think that we hate them. It is simply not their time. When their time comes, we will support them also, but not now."
"When I wanted to be regional chairman, everywhere I went, the grassroots told me point blank that because I have never supported Akufo-Addo they were not going to vote for me, even though they liked me," he said.
He added that, "The support Nana Akufo-Addo has in the party is very strong, and as such I had no choice but to listen to the voice of the people, because it is the voice of God. We are listening to the voice of the grassroots and the grassroots say it is Akufo-Addo they want."
