Accra, April 8, GNA - The Chairman of the Odododiodoo Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Daniel Nii Okai, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to start preparing their handling over notes to get out of government after the 2008 Presidential and General Elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Friday, he pointed out that the NPP losing all the three by-elections at Ayawaso in the Ashanti Region, Odododiodoo in the Greater Accra and Tamale Central in the Northern Region in a role to the NDC was an indication of the failure of the government to live up to its campaign promises. Mr Okai stated that even though the NDC was going through some problems members of the party should stand solidly behind its leaders and appealed to those who had left to join another party to rescind their decision.

The Odododiodoo NDC Chairman noted that the three by-election victories following the heels of each other was an indication that it was party that people loved and a clear signal to the government that the people were suffering and that the situation was getting worse. Mr Okai noted that the significant thing about the by-elections was that the NDC had been increasing its margin of votes, which indicated that the electorate and Ghanaians were fed up with the NPP administration.

He attributed the by-election victories to the vigilance of the party supporters and said that "the people are wide awake and that no amount of intimidation and victimisation" would deter them from exercising their "God given right to vote for the party of their choice".

"The heavy military and Police presence at the by-elections could not change the minds of the people and let me tell you this is only a dress rehearsal for the 2008 elections to boot the NPP out of office," Mr Okai said.

The NDC is ready for the Nkoranza seat, which should be declared vacant since the sitting MP, who is facing criminal charges outside the country is certainly going to jail and the earlier the seat was declared vacant the better," he added.

Mr Okai urged the government not to think of transferring people serving various prison terms for various drug related charges outside Ghana home because the NDC would resist such attempts since they would be left of the hook by the government".
