Wa, Jan 03, GNA - Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, on Monday urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party to express their loyalty and commitment to the cause of the Party by constantly rebutting any negative propaganda waged against it by its opponents.

He said the NPP had done a lot of good things for the country, especially in the area of the provision of development projects and laying the foundation for a stable and prosperous economy but its detractors often chose to ignore the achievements and rather dwell on making mischief and peddling falsehood about the government and its functionaries.

"You should not sit down as true and committed followers of the Party and allow it to be dragged in the mud with lies in some FM stations without your response", he said.

Mr Dery was speaking at an end of year get-together organized by the Wa Central Constituency branch of the Party for about one thousand of its supporters in the constituency at Wa.

The event, which was the first of its kind to be organized in the region by the party, was planned to be an annual affair, as a way of showing gratitude to the supporters for their continued loyalty to the Party.

The Regional Minister said the wrong notion, which had long been created in the region that, the NPP was an Akan Party, and the NDC belonged to Northerners, should be disabused through intensive campaigns by Party faithful.

"If the NDC belonged to Northerners, how come that its parent regime, which is the PNDC overthrew Dr Hillah Liman, who was a Northerner" he queried.

He reminded the party supporters that there were no jobs to give to everyone at a go, and therefore, called for patience, since their needs would be met as resources became available.

Alhaji Abubakari Abdul-Rahman, the Regional Chairman of the Party said his executive had made a promise to grab all the ten seats for the party in the 2008 and asked for their support and unity to enable them achieve that ambition.

He advised the supporters to embrace newcomers to the Party and refrain from regarding anyone as a stranger in their fold and added that, such get-together and interactions would be replicated in all the constituencies of the region.

Mr Clement Eledi, a Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture said the impressive patronage of the event was an indication of a new and vibrant life for the party in the region and expressed the hope that this positive development would be sustained to reflect in the results of the next elections.

He advised all the constituencies to girdle their loins and start very serious mobilization of support for the Party.

Mallam Abdulai Safana, the Constituency Chairman said the recent changes in the composition of the various executives had brought massive goodwill to the party in the area and pledged their preparedness to sustain the goodwill to ensure victory in 2008.
