NPP to provide all the basic needs of Nalerigu-Gambaga by 2008 - Hajia

Accra, Sept.28, GNA - Hajia Alima Mahama, the parliamentary candidate of New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Nalerigu-Gambaga, in the Northern Region, has said the Government would provide basic infrastructure to accelerate the development of the area.

"After 2008 there will be no need for the construction of new school projects and the lack of furniture. That will be a thing of the past. All that will be left would be the maintenance of these facilities," she said.

Hajia Mahama, also the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and the President's Special Initiative, was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.

She said the benefits the country derived from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative had led to the provision of schools, health and toilet facilities in the Constituency.

The Aspiring Parliamentarian said the Government had spent over eight billion cedis in providing two bridges on the Gambaga-Langbinsi and Nalerigu- Gbintiri roads.

Hajia Mahama said over two billion cedis had been spent to tar a portion of the Nalerigu- Gambaga road, while an additional 12 kilometres had been awarded on contract. Five kilometres would be completed by the end of the year.

She said 12 kilometres of the Walewale - Gambaga had been awarded on contract for tarring while the Nalerigu township road was also due for tarring.

Hajia Mahama said the Danish International Development Agency was also sponsoring a number of road projects in the area.

She said the East Mamprusi District Assembly had put up a new administration block at Gambaga while the old structure at Nalerigu had been converted into a Youth Training Institute.

Hajia Mahama expressed optimism that the development track record of the NPP would ensure the victory of the Party in Election 2004. She said although she lost as a parliamentary candidate in the 2000 General Election, it was now time to claim the seat, being occupied by the main opposition National Democratic Congress.

" I've been in development work for a very long time and I am now well placed to provide my constituency the necessary attention and resources.

"I have the trust and the confidence of the people," she said smiling.
