NPP to use diplomacy to win elections

Gwollu (UW), Sept. 12, GNA - Mr. Salifu Waah, Sissala East District Chief Executive on Saturday appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) functionaries and sympathisers to use diplomacy and convincing messages to win the December general elections.

"The days of character assassination and the use of violence to win elections are gone and Ghana is now an icon in African democratic dispensation."

Mr Waah made this appeal at Gwollu on Saturday when the constituency NPP delegates unanimously confirmed Mr. George Hikah Benson, a social worker as the NPP parliamentary candidate of the newly created Sissala West constituency.

The DCE said the party hierarchy had intensified educational programmes on violence and attacks on personalities during political campaigns and called on other parties to do the same to ensure violent-free elections.

Mr George Hikah Benson who was elected unopposed thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to carry out his campaign without unnecessary attacks on personalities.

"I know we now have the opportunity of unifying the people of this newly created district to develop and why should we engage in war of words," he asked.

Mr. Benson called on the people in the Gwollu District to vote for the NPP to speed up with development projects since the district is one of NPP's babies."

Alhaji Abudulai Issahaque, Upper West Regional Chairman of the NPP called on the people of the area to honour Dr. Hilla Limann, a former President of the Third Republic by voting massively for the NPP Government.

He explained that although, Dr. Limann became President under the Nkrumahists parties, he was originally from the UP tradition as he was one of the founding members of the Danquah-Busia tradition.

He said Dr. Limann is dead, but it was the duty of the people to immortalise him by voting for the tradition he originally belonged to. The Regional Chairman also swore in a 13-member constituency executive of the party and commissioned a new constituency office.

There were solidarity messages from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People's National Convention (PNC).
