Ghanaians must fully participate in the upcoming exhibition of the voters’ register by the Electoral Commission (EC), presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has admonished.
The three-week exercise commences on Monday July 18 and will end on Sunday August 7, 2016.
Nana Addo, who was speaking to a mammoth crowd of jubilant supporters at Mampong in the Ashanti Region as part of his five-day regional tour, emphasised the importance of the exercise.
“The EC will open the register for everyone to check if their names have been captured. I plead with everyone to make it your duty to go and check. If you fail to check and your name is not included, you cannot cast your vote on election day,” he underscored.
Meanwhile, the EC, which released a list containing details of some 56,772 persons who used National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to register as voters in 2012, has announced that the affected people will have their names deleted and eligible people who qualify for re-registration can do so during the exhibition period.
The Director of Elections at the EC, Samuel Tettey, who addressed the media in a news conference on Wednesday July 13, explained that the re-registration was scheduled to take place at the district offices of the EC from 18th July-28th July.
This means re-registration will run concurrently with the exhibition exercise beginning Monday July 18 but will end on July 28 as the exhibition continues till August 7.
