Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, has commended his constituents for massively endorsing him in the just-ended general election.
He said their support was a testimony of the acceptance of the good work the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led administration did for the people of New Juaben. Dr Assibey-Yeboah, a former staff of the Bank of Ghana and a Senior Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Public Administration, polled 38,030 votes representing 58.75 per cent of total votes cast to win the seat.
His main contender, Dr Kwaku Owusu-Acheampong of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 24, 925 votes, representing 38.51 percent.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Koforidua on Thursday, Dr Assibey-Yeboah thanked the constituency executives, party members, chiefs and people in the area for their continued support for the NPP and the astronomical increase in votes for him and the presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
“I thank God and the people of New Juaben South Constituency for giving me the opportunity to serve Ghana through parliament and I am very humbled by this kind gesture,” he said.
He assured the people that the confidence reposed in him would not be in vain as he would justify it in the coming years adding that there would be a lot of infrastructural development in the constituency.
Dr Assibey-Yeboah, who is going to parliament for the first time, promised to keep faith with the people and called for total support and cooperation from the constituents.
The MP assured them that he would do all within his power to continue to develop the area and improve the standard of living of the people.
Dr Assibey-Yeboah urged both his supporters and those with different political affiliations to come together to find solution to the numerous challenges confronting the area adding that he was not going to be an MP for only the people who voted for him but for all the constituents. He urged the NPP supporters to remain calm whiles the national executives continue with the struggle in court.
Other candidates who contested the seat were Dr Enock Ansah of the Progressive People’s Party who polled 1,347 votes, representing 2.08 percent, Hefasoulnia Akyea Mensah Brown, Independent People’s Party, polled 205 votes, representing 0.32 percent, Collins Agyei Oteng of the Convention People’s Party had 118 votes, representing 0.18 percent and Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu, of the Peoples National Convention had 106 votes or 0.16 per cent.
This is the fifth consecutive time since 1996 that the NPP had won the seat.
