Leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Nabdam Constituency have accused the New Patriotic Party, the National Identification Authority, NIA and the Electoral Commission of conspiracy and attempting to manipulate and disenfranchise their members against the 2020 general elections.

They claim to have evidence that the NPP led government is putting pressure on District and Municipal electoral officers in the Upper East Region to recruit sympathizers of the ruling party as electoral officers for the impending voters registration exercise.

The constituency Communication Officer James Tenga Yidaan during a press conference at Nangodi in the Upper East Region said “the survival of the NPP in Nabdam is largely depended on many Nabdams getting disenfranchised especially the NDC strong hold communities and polling stations.” Mr. Yidaan also hinted that the last NIA exercise was supervised by known NPP constituency executives aimed at ensuring that majority of their party members got registered for the Ghana Card.

“The NIA exercise was characterized and supervised by the NPP constituency executives, notably among them were the NPP constituency secretary and his deputy; they NPP constituency organizer and the NPP constituency Youth organizers’ wife and other NPP cronies across the constituency.”

They alleged that their intelligence on the grounds indicate that the NIA and NPP are hatching a plan to import people from different regions into the constituency to register at the expense of Nabdams. Mr. James Tenga further accused the George Tenga, Constituency Chairman of the NPP of compiling names of his party members for onward delivery to the NIA and EC for the various registration exercises.

The Communication Officer also used the opportunity to call on the NIA and the EC to ensure that all eligible persons are registered in the upcoming exercises. He warned the EC insisting that they will resist any such attempt by the NPP to use them to manipulate the system.

“The NDC is sounding a word of caution to the few NPP members that they preside over the silent majority NDC members. The NDC wishes to assure its rank and file that victory at the December polls for Hon. Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane and John Dramani Mahama is a forgone conclusion regardless of the machination of NPP Nabdam in cahoots with state institutions.” He concluded.
