Next NPP National Chairman must come from Ashanti Region – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has proposed that the next national chairman of the party must be elected from the region.

Speaking on his Wontumi Radio on Thursday, May 15, 2025,

Wontumi, who has publicly declared his intention to contest the national chairmanship, pointed to history to support his argument.

According to him, despite the Ashanti Region being the party’s stronghold, it has never had a national chairman hailing from the region.

“Nobody from the Ashanti Region has been national chairman before,” he noted.

In a bid to position himself as the right choice, Wontumi said his journey as a constituency chairman and currently as a regional chairman, coupled with his political experience, qualifies him as the next national chairman of the NPP.

“They want someone who has been a constituency chairman and knows the ropes. I have been a regional chairman as well, and it has given me the experience,” he said.

He stated that his election would largely benefit ordinary party members, who are referred to as the grassroots.

“I belong to every society. I am the people’s chairman,” he said.
