Nkawkaw MP urged to go independent

Some concerned citizens at Nkawkaw have urged Mr. Seth Adjei Baah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkawkaw to contest the constituency parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

They said that would help the area to continue to enjoy massive infrastructure development.

They also noted that Mr. Adjei Baah had outlined and executed many programmes and policies in the constituency, which he had to be in Parliament to complete them to improve the living standards of the people.

Mr. Adjei Baah won the 2008 Nkawkaw constituency parliamentary election as an independent candidate, but decided to contest this year’s election on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but he lost the primary.

At a press conference at Nkawkaw on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the concerned citizens, Mr. Kofi Agyepong said people in the constituency were not much interested in any political party, but rather in leaders, who in diverse ways, could develop the area through employment generation and other development projects.

He said the constituency also needed an internationally recognized entrepreneur and respected leader, who could solicit international assistance to execute some of the development projects in the communities.

Mr. Agyepong noted that the MP had started the construction of a clinic at Nkawkaw to provide health care delivery to supplement the efforts of the Holy Family Mission Hospital to provide quality health care to the people.

He said the fate of over 200 students on Mr Adjei Baah scholarship scheme including those on his Skilled Training Programme in hair dressing and Seamstress Projects, would be in the balance if the MP failed to go to Parliament again.

Mr. Agyepong said though the constituency was known to be the stronghold of the NPP for the past two decades, no meaningful development project was seen in the constituency until the arrival of Mr Adjei Baah.

He said though Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, had been elected as NPP parliamentary candidate for this year’s parliamentary election, he had not come out with any pragmatic programme for the constituency that could enable him to win the seat.

Mr. Agyepong, therefore, urged Mr. Adjei Baah to accept their appeal to contest the seat as an independent candidate as they would give him the needed support and co-operation.
