A new political party to revive the ideals and dreams of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah has been formed. The party, christened Nkrumah Never Dies Party (NNDP) is formed to honour Nkrumah, through whose exploits the nation was formed and founded.
The part is also to usher in a new political paradigm where tribalism, poverty, hunger and diseases do not exist.
Speaking to the times in Accra, Mr Amusu Kwaggrey, a leading member of the party, said the NNDP was formed to honour Nkrumah as the country celebrates his 100th anniversary.
"The NNDP is also to reactivate the dreams and aspirations of Nkrumah," he added, stressing Dr Nkrumah's legendary "ideals continue to live on." Further expatriating on the objectives of the party, Mr Amusu said there were so many people out there who believed in the ideals of Dr Nkrumah but did not belong to any political party. "It is such people and the masses the NNDP is going to mobilise to build a strong and vibrant party."
According to Mr Amusu it would take a new political force to stem the tide of the somersault which began in 1996, stressing that the NNDP has been formed to raise the general level of consciousness of the citizens and draw new programmes for national rebirth and reconstruction.
"NNDP is out to mobilise of people of Ghana to revitalize the Ghanaian dream. This revitalization programme, shall take the form of political reforms, social reconstruction and economic independence," he said, adding this will enable "us to rebuild Ghana and resume anew the struggle for our total development."
"Today, Ghana is far from what it ought to have been. We have become more or less (adikan abedie akyire)," Mr Amusu stressed.
Mr Amusu regretted that after 50 years of independence, the country was wallowing in poverty, squalor and disease. He said Nkrumah left so many legacies that successive government could have built on to relieve the country from its economic doldrums.
Some of the legacies he mentioned include the Tema Motorway, Tema Oil Refinery, Akosombo Dam, Ghana Airways, State Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation and State Fishing Corporation. According to Mr Amusu, Nkrumah's achievements - infrastructural development, education, health, sports and communication facilities - still stood unbeatable.
He said the NNDP had come to give meaning to the ideals and dreams of Nkrumah and build a nation where "the real income of the people rises, where prices of goods and services do not overleap wages . educational and cultural amenities are available to all people, and where full employment, equal opportunity and rising standard of living prevail."
