No district, no levies – Ningo Youth

The youth and people of Ningo are refusing to pay any levy to the Ningo/Prampram District Assembly till the government gives the area a district status.

“We will pay taxes to a different body appointed by government apart from the Ningo/Prampram District Assembly because we have said now and then that we are not part of the assembly,” Ebenezer Tetteh Amanor, Chairman of the Great Ningo Youth Association said at an emergency meeting with the youth at Old Ningo on Sunday.

He said the people of Ningo did not want to be part of the current assembly at Prampram and that they wanted their own district to manage the affairs of the area, stating that; “even if it is going to take us years to achieve our cherished goal and until that is done, we will like to remain an orphan.”

Mr Amanor said a number of press conferences have been held, and letters have been written to the appropriate authorities, but nothing has been done so far, adding; “what we are saying today is that government should give us a listening ear on the matter.”

“It is time Ningo people also have a share of the national cake. Keeping quiet does not mean we are cowards or weak. We are tired of always being under some districts and denied our share of the national cake. The traditional area has all the assets that guaranteed it to have an autonomous district.”

Mr Amanor said, “We are not at logger-heads with anybody or any personality. We are only just fighting for our share and we would not be quiet until our share is given to us.”

“There is the need for the ruling government to listen to our demand and accord us the district status in return for the massive support the people of Ningo had been giving to it for peace to prevail,” the Chairman stated.

The youth noted that the arrest of some Ningo citizens should stop because their fight for the area was not an individual cause, but for the entire people of Ningo.

Mr Amanor commended the government for bringing on board the proposed international airport at Ningo.
